Environmental polices

August 21, 2008:

Dry Goods has great news; we're now using bamboo material in our shirts!  It's a cotton/bamboo blend, completely woven in Toronto.  We're strong believers in supporting the Canadian economy, and want to prove that Canadians don't need to be dependent upon off-shore manufacturers.  We refuse to support unfair trade practices of third world countries, that are taking advantage of their workforce to meet North American's desire to wear organic cotton.

Instead, we aim to maintain an ecological balance and avoid depletion of our natural resources.  Our sustainable materials are helping reduce overseas transport costs and helping support North American farmers because our material is naturally dyed and knitted in Toronto.

Conventional screen-printing is notoriously toxic: for every dozen shirts that are printed with a single colour, puts about one ounce (28g) of toxic chemicals into the environment, which is more harmful than gasoline.

At Dry Goods, our shirts are printed with 100% biodegradable chemicals, made from soybeans, which are completely environmentally friendly.  More than ever, consumers are beginning to recognize the impact of their decisions, and the conflict between purchases and the destruction of the environment.  That's why here, at Dry Goods, we are taking all practical steps to replace conventional products with better alternatives, while supporting a vital part of our local economy.
